It's Japanese custom (or obsession) to make sure that the store front, including the street is clean. Customers prefer clean street access, right? Whenever I go back to Japan, I am always amazed that the streets are always clean even in such a densely populated area.
Can you imagine this? A shopfront guy washing the street in front of his store!
