Do geishas often go out during the day so openly? I remember hearing how rare it was to see them and when I was in Kyoto, I walked around Gion in the evening trying to spot a geisha and when I did see one, other tourists were running after her, whereas the next day I saw two women dressed in white makeup and gowns just standing by a vendor along a pedestrian road near a temple. I couldn't tell whether they really were geisha or just tourists dressed up as them.

ReplyDeleteYes they do make appearances during the day. But not so often. A lot of them are practicing during the day for their performances in the evenings.
